Hull City have added 26-year-old Akin Famewo to their squad in a free transfer ahead of Tuesday’s pre-season clash with Sunderland — www.naijnaira.com reports.
According to reports, Famewo signed a three-year deal with the EFL Championship side, with the club holding an option to extend it for the 2028-2029 season.
The defender, born in London to Nigerian parents, previously played for Sheffield Wednesday, racking up 73 appearances across three seasons.
He’s the second London-born Nigerian centre-back with a history at Charlton Athletic to join Hull this summer, coming shortly after Semi Ajayi’s arrival.
Unlike Ajayi, who moved on to Arsenal early in his career, Famewo had two separate loan stints at Charlton before making his mark at Sheffield Wednesday.
Famewo came through Luton Town’s youth ranks, briefly spent time on loan at Grimsby Town, and then signed for Norwich City in 2019.
He featured once in the Premier League with Norwich, appearing on the final day of the 2019-2020 campaign before loan spells in Scotland and back in London.
He has played 139 games across the English Football League, scored twice, and assisted four goals during that time.
Speaking on his style of play, Famewo said, “I’m aggressive, composed on the ball and passionate about defending.”
