A Nigerian doctoral student, Ojooluwa Ibiloye, has been elected President of the Biden School Student Association (BSSA) at the University of Delaware for the 2025-2026 academic year. The election results, which were announced on Monday, May 5, 2025, followed a vote that concluded on May 2. According to The News, Ibiloye’s election marks a significant achievement, as he steps into a leadership role representing students from diverse undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral programs at the prestigious institution.
In his victory speech, Ibiloye expressed his dedication to fostering a connected community. “We will build a more connected community that reflects our commitment to service, leadership, and learning,” he said, adding that he is grateful for the trust placed in him by the student body.
As President, Ibiloye plans to launch a quarterly student-led policy dialogue series, enhance engagement with alumni and policy professionals, and introduce a Student of the Month initiative to recognize outstanding academic and professional accomplishments. Additionally, he has proposed the creation of an Academic and Cultural Exchange Week to celebrate the diversity and knowledge within the student community.
Ibiloye’s leadership journey includes previous roles as secretary of the International City/County Management Association (ICMA) chapter at the University of Delaware, as well as leadership positions in Nigeria, including serving as secretary of the Political Science Student Association at the University of Abuja. He also held a senatorial role in the Federation of Ogbomoso Students Union and led a community development group during his National Youth Service Corps in Plateau State.
Ibiloye’s accomplishments are a testament to the growing presence of Nigerian students in leadership roles on the global stage. His election as BSSA president underscores his commitment to public service and democratic values, aligning with the Biden School’s mission of leadership through civic virtues.
