The Nigeria Immigration Service has confirmed a new increase in the cost of obtaining Nigerian passports, effective Sunday, September 1 — www.naijnaira.com reports.
According to Premium Times, the revised charges will apply to both new applicants and renewals processed within Nigeria.
The agency’s spokesperson, Akinsola Akinlabi, explained that the review was necessary to “uphold the quality and integrity of the Nigerian passport.”
With the adjustment, a 32-page booklet valid for five years will now cost N100,000 when applied for in Nigeria.
Applicants opting for a 64-page booklet with 10 years validity will now pay N200,000.
For Nigerians living abroad, the rates remain $150 for a 32-page booklet and $230 for a 64-page version with 10 years validity.
The Service stressed its commitment to making the process more accessible while maintaining international standards.
This change comes exactly one year after the last review in August 2024, when a five-year passport was raised from N35,000 to N50,000 and the 10-year option increased from N70,000 to N100,000.
The NIS assured applicants that the adjustments are designed to sustain both efficiency and credibility in passport issuance.
