NLC Vows to Take Over Labour Party Offices After Court Ruling

Here Is The Easy Money-Making Trick Everyone Is Talking About! Learn More Here!

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has announced plans to take control of Labour Party offices across the country. This decision follows the refusal of the Julius Abure-led leadership to accept the recent Supreme Court judgment.

Reason Behind the NLC’s Action

According to Joe Ajaero, the President of the NLC, the action became necessary after the court ruled that Abure and his National Working Committee are no longer the legitimate leadership of the Labour Party. As a result, the NLC is pushing forward with its plans to take over the party offices.

NLC’s Criticism of Abure’s Actions

The NLC strongly believes that Abure’s continued claims of legitimacy undermine Nigeria’s legal system. In addition, Ajaero criticized Abure for resisting the ruling, calling it “an affront to the law” and a disrespect to the country’s legal institutions. Therefore, the NLC insists that such behavior cannot go unchecked.

Rejection of the Supreme Court Judgment

Moreover, the NLC condemned Abure for issuing press statements that reject the Supreme Court’s decision. They accuse him and his supporters of acting with impunity. Consequently, the NLC sees these actions as a direct challenge to the rule of law in Nigeria.

Statement from NLC on Abure’s Resistance

“The current affront of Mr. Julius Abure and co-travellers against the law has convinced those who doubted our earlier position that Mr. Julius Abure and the few miscreants following him have sworn themselves to utter impunity,” the statement reads. Clearly, the NLC feels it has no choice but to act decisively.

NLC’s Warning Against Further Disrespect of the Law

The NLC has issued a firm warning that they will no longer tolerate such actions, especially after the Supreme Court ruling. Furthermore, they emphasized that they will not remain passive while Abure and his group ignore the law. Thus, the union is taking immediate steps to reclaim control of the offices.

Calls for Support and Action

“We will no longer condone the antics of inconsequential characters like Julius Abure,” the NLC declared. The union is also calling on all Nigerian workers, Labour Party members, and supporters of democracy to stay alert. In particular, they are preparing to reclaim the party’s offices nationwide.

Security Agencies’ Role in Enforcing the Supreme Court Ruling

Additionally, the NLC called on security agencies, especially the Nigeria Police Force and State Security Service, to support the enforcement of the Supreme Court’s decision. Without their cooperation, the NLC believes it will be impossible to enforce the ruling effectively.

INEC’s Duty to Uphold the Court’s Judgment

The NLC also reminded the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to follow the judgment by removing all references to Abure and his team from its records. By doing so, INEC would help ensure that the court’s ruling is fully respected.

Expected Steps by Labour Party’s National Executive Committee

Moreover, the NLC expects the Labour Party’s surviving National Executive Committee members to appoint an interim leadership. This leadership will then organize a National Convention in line with the party’s constitution. If these steps are not taken, the NLC warned, it would lead to more resistance.

Warning Against Unconstitutional Actions

In light of these developments, the NLC stressed that any attempt to bypass these constitutional procedures will meet strong resistance. Consequently, they are prepared to take all necessary actions to ensure the rule of law prevails.

Past Warnings to Abure

The NLC’s actions come after they previously warned Abure about the consequences of ignoring the rule of law. “Just as we warned him about a year ago that Nigerian workers and genuine members of the Labour Party will always collect what belongs to them, no matter how long a mischief lasts,” they stated.

Labour Party’s Response to NLC’s Plans

In response, Obiora Ifoh, the National Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party, condemned the NLC’s planned actions. He called it an “affront against INEC and security agencies.” Furthermore, he reiterated that the Abure-led leadership remains the legitimate governing body of the party.
