Nollywood actress Kate Henshaw has raised concerns about Nigeria’s democratic journey, questioning its impact on the daily struggles of ordinary Nigerians. She voiced her disappointment over the nation’s failure to address basic needs despite years of uninterrupted democratic governance.
Henshaw made these remarks during a special Democracy Day interview on Channels Television. She criticised the state of public services and the worsening poverty levels, stressing that citizens are finding it harder to survive.
“Our democracy is not being felt by the people. Yes, we have had uninterrupted democracy, but how does that trickle down? What is that trickle-down effect? How does it impact the lives of the people, the ordinary Nigerians?” she asked.
Henshaw pointed out the disappearance of the middle class, the collapse of public healthcare, growing insecurity, and the daily struggles faced by many Nigerians. She described the situation plainly: “Everything around us is crumbling and Nigerians are barely holding on by the skin of their teeth.”
Despite the difficult reality, Henshaw encouraged citizens to remain engaged and continue to hold public officials accountable. She called for justice, fairness, and security for all.
The actress explained her reluctance to participate in Democracy Day celebrations, saying there was nothing meaningful to celebrate. Still, she expressed hope that Nigeria can be rebuilt for future generations.
