John Ogu has dismissed claims suggesting he’s set to join Rivers United ahead of the upcoming Nigeria Professional Football League season, www.naijnaira.com reports.
Reports recently suggested that the 37-year-old midfielder was in talks with the Port Harcourt-based side for a potential return to domestic football.
In response to the trending story, Ogu posted a screenshot of the article on social media with a bold caption that read: “I never spoke to anyone and nobody ever spoke to me about joining any team in NPFL.”
His statement leaves little doubt about his intentions for the near future, especially as he remains a free agent since parting ways with Israeli side Kabilio Jaffa last year.
In the past two seasons, several high-profile Super Eagles players have returned to play in the NPFL.
Ahmed Musa rejoined Kano Pillars while also handling front office duties, and Shehu Abdullahi featured intermittently.
Brown Ideye was part of Enyimba’s squad last season but has not been linked with another club since leaving.
While speculation remains active around NPFL returns, Ogu’s words appear definitive—for now, he’s not in discussions with any club.
