Laura Rutherford, a mother from London, has launched a fundraising campaign to raise £10,000 for gene therapy to treat her six-month-old son, Teo, who has Non-Ketotic Hyperglycinemia (NKH), a rare genetic disorder that affects the brain and nervous system.

The condition means that Teo is unable to break down glycine, an amino acid that can cause brain damage and death.

Laura said that she is constantly preparing for the possibility of losing her child, but she is determined to do everything she can to save his life.

Teo was diagnosed with NKH shortly after birth and was given a life expectancy of just six weeks.

However, Laura and her husband Moss have been caring for him at home and he is now six months old.

Teo is on eight different medications and has extremely low immunity, which means that he cannot go on outings or spend time with other babies.

Laura said that she cries every day and is constantly worried about how much time she has left with her son.

She has set up a fundraising page to raise money for gene therapy, which could extend Teo’s life.

Laura said that she will never stop fundraising for gene therapy until a cure is found for NKH.
