The Kaduna State Police Command has stopped a planned rally organized by supporters of Peter Obi, citing security threats and electoral guidelines, NaijNaira can report.
According to Channels TV, the rally was scheduled to celebrate Obi’s birthday but was halted due to concerns that criminal elements might hijack the event.
“The proposed rally poses a significant risk of tension, clashes, and a possible breakdown of law and order,” said DSP Mansir Hassan, the Command’s spokesperson.
He explained that political gatherings are still suspended in the state until the official campaign period begins, as directed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
INEC has scheduled primary elections for other political parties on the same date as the planned rally, and those parties have notified the police accordingly.
Hassan stated, “It’s important to avoid overlapping events that could lead to disruption or violence in designated areas.”
The police warned that legal action would be taken against anyone or any group defying the order.
They urged the organisers to suspend the rally to maintain public safety and avoid interference with INEC-sanctioned activities.
“The Command respects the rights of citizens but must prioritise the safety and peace of Kaduna State,” Hassan concluded.
