Former Super Eagles captain Austin Jay-Jay Okocha has shared his thoughts on the future of Nigerian forwards Victor Osimhen and Victor Boniface, NaijNaira can report.
Osimhen wrapped up a strong season in Turkey with Galatasaray, where he lifted both the league title and the Turkish Cup, also winning the golden boot. In contrast, Boniface faced a tough season with Bayer Leverkusen after battling injuries that affected his performance.
Leverkusen are reportedly open to selling Boniface if the right offer arrives. He was close to joining Al-Nassr in January but remained at the Bay Arena. Okocha sympathized with Boniface’s situation and encouraged him to stay focused. “Of course, his second season was not as successful as his first, but we can’t forget the injury he had. We all know it takes time to come back from a serious injury,” Okocha told Sport 247.
Okocha advised Boniface to work hard if he stays at Leverkusen but added that a move to a better club could help his career. Turning to Osimhen, Okocha stressed the importance of personal choice. “The decision should be his. Whether it goes well or not, he must own it,” he said.
Boniface has been linked to Newcastle in recent transfer news, though he reportedly has no interest in Premier League football. Meanwhile, Osimhen is attracting attention from Liverpool.
