Nyesom Wike, minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has praised former Delta State governor Ifeanyi Okowa for backing President Bola Tinubu. He described the move as a validation of his own early support for Tinubu during the 2023 presidential election.

According to TheCable, Okowa, who was the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) vice-presidential candidate in 2023, is preparing to join the All Progressives Congress (APC). This comes shortly after Delta’s current governor, Sheriff Oborevwori—also elected on the PDP ticket—officially defected to the APC.

Oborevwori succeeded Okowa as governor and is now aligning with the federal leadership. Wike expressed satisfaction that both leaders are backing the current administration at a time when their support can directly benefit the Niger Delta.

“They have come out at the right time to show support for the president so that the people of Niger Delta can benefit more from the government, and I commend them,” Wike stated.

The FCT minister emphasized that this shift is a recognition of the federal government’s efforts and encouraged others to support the president for national unity and development.
