Air Peace has been officially cleared to begin direct flights between Lagos, São Paulo, and Rio de Janeiro before the year ends – www.naijnaira.com reports.
The arrangement follows a Bilateral Air Services Agreement signed in Brazil during President Bola Tinubu’s recent state visit, as reported by Premium Times.
Air Peace chairman Allen Onyema described the development as a turning point for both countries, saying, “Aviation is a catalyst for development, and this agreement will unlock opportunities between Africa’s largest economy and Latin America’s biggest market.”
He confirmed the airline will start with three weekly flights in late November or early December, linking Lagos to Brazil with hopes to expand as passenger demand rises.
Minister of Information Mohammed Idris added that the deal carries cultural weight, noting, “This is not only about trade and investment but about reconnecting across the Atlantic after 350 years of shared history.”
Idris said the pact shortens flight times by about seven hours and reflects Nigeria’s leadership role in Africa during global engagements.
Alongside aviation, Nigeria and Brazil signed four other cooperation agreements covering health, science, technology, and cultural exchange during Tinubu’s two-day trip.
