Former West Ham United star Nigel Reo-Coker has urged English giants Liverpool to consider replacing their misfiring attacker, Darwin Nunez. Despite registering decent numbers with 11 goals and eight assists in 33 Premier League appearances this season, Nunez has faced criticism for his inability to convert big chances.
With a shot accuracy of just 42 percent and 26 big chances missed, statistics suggest that the Uruguayan forward has not been clinical enough in front of goal. This has had a negative impact on Liverpool’s chances of winning multiple trophies this season.
Liverpool’s hopes of clinching the quadruple have been dashed, with the team falling behind in the league race and getting knocked out of the FA Cup and Europa League by Manchester United and Atalanta respectively. Reo-Coker believes that Liverpool would benefit from trading Nunez for the likes of Victor Osimhen or Victor Boniface.
Osimhen, the talismanic Nigerian striker for Napoli, has registered an impressive 14 goals in 22 Serie A games this season. On the other hand, Boniface, a 2023/24 Bundesliga winner with Bayer Leverkusen, contributed 11 goals and eight assists in 20 matches.
Reo-Coker reveals that Liverpool needs a clinical goalscorer and suggests exploring a swap deal to acquire one of these top European strikers while moving Nunez on. He believes that Liverpool could find a suitable replacement for Mohamed Salah, who is rumored to be leaving the club.
