Ismaila Yushau Maihanchi, the member-elect for Jalingo, Yorro, Zing constituency in Taraba State, has passed away.
The unfortunate incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT.
Maihanchi, who contested the National Assembly election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), had emerged as the winner, defeating his opponents from the All Progressives Congress (APC), the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), and the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
According to Andeta’rang Irammae, the spokesperson of the PDP, Maihanchi fell ill shortly after the election and had been receiving medical treatment in Abuja.
The news of his death came as a rude shock to his party, and Abubakar Bawa, the acting chairman of the party, described it as a big blow to the PDP family in the state and the country at large.
