The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced the formation of a reconciliation committee, aiming to address internal issues and prepare for the upcoming National Executive Council (NEC) meeting. The committee will be chaired by Bukola Saraki, former Senate President, known for his experience in managing party dynamics.
According to Naija News, the announcement followed a strategic meeting held at the residence of Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, who also chairs the PDP Governors’ Forum.
The meeting included several key party figures, such as Nyesom Wike, the Federal Capital Territory Minister, and prominent governors like Ademola Adeleke of Osun, Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau, and Seyi Makinde of Oyo.
Governor Mohammed emphasized the importance of unity, explaining that the meeting aimed to pave the way for the NEC meeting and ensure a smooth path towards a successful national convention later in the year.
As he put it, “The invitation extended to former governors was to leverage their experiences in resolving the party’s internal issues, ensuring a peaceful NEC meeting, and laying the foundation for a successful national convention.”
The PDP’s acting National Chairman, Umar Damagun, and former caretaker chairman Ahmed Makarfi also attended, highlighting the party’s focus on reconciliation and regaining control of states previously governed by the party.
Governor Mohammed further remarked that recent defections would ultimately make the party stronger, as the PDP sets its sights on reclaiming lost ground and gearing up for future elections.
