Seun Kuti, a Nigerian singer, was involved in an altercation with a police officer on the Third Mainland bridge in Lagos and slapped the officer during the encounter.
As a result, the Inspector-General of Police ordered his arrest for investigation.
Kuti later turned up at the Lagos State Police Command Headquarters with his lawyer and family representative.
Photos and videos shared online show how the Afrobeat singer was humiliated, handcuffed, and had his shoes removed.
In response to criticism over the police’s actions, the Nigerian Police Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, explained that handcuffing and removing shoes is a normal procedure before detention.
