The Premier League has announced that gambling sponsorship on the front of football shirts will be phased out by the end of the 2025/26 season.
This decision was made collectively by the clubs and will make the Premier League the first sports league in the UK to voluntarily take such a measure to reduce gambling advertising.
Currently, eight out of the 20 top-flight clubs have shirts sponsored by gambling companies.
The three-year transition period will allow existing deals to be completed without clubs facing penalties for cutting contracts short.
The Premier League is also working with other sports to develop a new code for responsible gambling sponsorship.
The UK government review of gambling legislation will reportedly not include a blanket ban on front of shirt sponsorship due to the financial impact it would have on lower league clubs.
However, the Premier League, with its high television rights revenues, had been under pressure to take action.
