President Tinubu to Recognize Magistrates as Judicial Officers

Here Is The Easy Money-Making Trick Everyone Is Talking About! Learn More Here!

The Magistrates Association of Nigeria’s national president, Saidu Safiyanu Umar, has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to recognize magistrates as judicial officers by assenting to the Bill.

Umar also requested that the years of service for magistrates be extended from 60 to 65.

He emphasized the importance of magistrate courts, which handle the majority of judicial work and are the closest courts to the public.

While the code of conduct for judicial officers recognizes magistrates as judicial officers, they are excluded from remuneration and welfare, leaving them without well-defined conditions for service.

The association also called for the harmonization and unification of the salary structure for all magistrates in the country.

A previous bill seeking constitutional amendments to recognize magistrates as judicial officers was rejected by a former president.

The Magistrates Association of Nigeria is an umbrella body of all magistrates in Nigeria, with branches in all 36 states and the FCT.
