France ended their Nations League campaign with a 3-1 win over Italy, securing top spot in Group A2.

Adrien Rabiot was the standout performer, scoring twice on his 50th international cap, both goals coming from Lucas Digne’s precise set-piece deliveries.

Both teams had already secured a place in the quarter-finals ahead of the match, but the outcome would determine who finished top of the group.

Italy’s task was clear: avoid losing by two goals or more to secure first place.

However, France took control early, with Rabiot heading in a Digne free-kick in the second minute, followed by an own goal from Italy’s Guglielmo Vicario, who deflected another Digne delivery into his net.

Italy responded ten minutes before the break, with Andrea Cambiaso scoring a fine finish at the back post to halve the deficit.

Despite trailing, Italy were still on course to top the group thanks to their 3-1 win in the reverse fixture.

The decisive moment came in the 65th minute when Digne once again assisted Rabiot, who guided a header past Vicario to restore France’s two-goal advantage.

Italy’s hopes of a comeback were dashed when Mike Maignan made a crucial save to deny Moise Kean in the dying seconds.

France’s victory ensured they topped the group and secured a favorable draw for the knockout stage.
