Atletico Madrid were reportedly turned down by Manchester United when they bid for Victor Lindelof at the end of last year.
The 28-year-old has been part of the Red Devils team since 2017, making over hundreds of appearances and contributing three goals and six assists in total.
In recent weeks, Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez have both been ahead of Lindelof in the pecking order for a starting spot in defence, along with club captain Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw.
Fabrizio Romano reported that Atletico Madrid sent an approach to Man United to discuss a move for the Swedish player but head coach Erik ten Hag had no intention of letting him go due to the team’s crowded fixture list.
Additionally, Lindelof’s current contract with Man United will keep him until 2025 due to their option of extending it by 12 months should they choose to do so.
As for Maguire, he has stated his determination to fight his way back as a starter despite persistent rumours linking him away from Old Trafford.
Phil Jones and Axel Tuanzebe are also expected to leave upon the end of their contracts this summer which could mean another big shift is coming up in terms of centre-backs at the club later on in 2021.
