President Bola Tinubu of Nigeria has ambitious plans to create new cities in the country, according to a statement by Minister of Housing, Arc Ahmed Musa Dangiwa.
The President sees building as a tool to boost urban development and economic growth, as well as reduce poverty.
The plan involves collaboration with state governments to acquire land for the construction of affordable and livable houses.
The Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria will also be recapitalized to effectively deliver its mandate.
The Nigeria Institute of Builders will be invited to contribute to the housing sector reform committee, which aims to improve the functioning of the entire housing sector.
These efforts align with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda in the housing sector.
Suggestions from the Institute include releasing land for housing development in all states, providing affordable loans to real estate developers, and facilitating collaboration among professional bodies in the built environment.
