Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has spoken out against the politics of bitterness that he believes is prevalent in the state. He alleges that his senator, Barry Mpigi, attempted to prevent members of the Senate ad-hoc committee on turnaround maintenance of Nigerian refineries from visiting him.

Senator Mpigi, who represents the Rivers South-East Senatorial Zone, was in the state with the committee, led by Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, to inspect the ongoing turnaround maintenance of the Port Harcourt refinery.

However, he was conspicuously absent when the committee paid a courtesy visit to Governor Fubara in the government house on Friday night.

During the visit, Governor Fubara addressed the senators, expressing his awareness that not all members of the committee were present.

He also acknowledged that Senator Mpigi did not want the committee to come to the state. However, he commended the integrity of the senators who decided to visit despite the opposition.

Governor Fubara emphasized that politics is a business of interest, where today’s enemies can become tomorrow’s friends. He stressed the importance of prioritizing the interest of the people above personal agendas.

He also revealed that the government has no place for politics of bitterness, as their primary focus is the well-being of the people.

In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Governor Fubara reminded the senators of the peaceful nature and hospitality of the state and its people. He urged them to freely interact with the government for the mutual benefit of all stakeholders.

Governor Fubara concluded by warning that disrespecting a person in authority may bring temporary success but will ultimately result in greater pain.

He assured the senators that despite distractions, the government remains committed to delivering for the people and making a positive impact on their lives.
