Rivers State Commissioner of Sports, Chris Green, has blamed the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for the rejection of the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt to host group stage matches of Rivers United in the CAF Confederation Cup.

Reports emerged recently that Rivers United had resorted to moving these games to Uyo’s Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, claiming that the Port Harcourt facility didn’t meet general African football standards.

The Commissioner alleged that NFF officials were supposed to inspect the facility but failed to show up.

In response, NFF General Secretary Mohammed Sanusi declined media comments on this particular issue and stated “I can’t be discussing issues like this in the media, but NFF has done it’s job.”

Confirming this move, fixtures released by CAF detail all home games will now be played at Uyo’s Akpabio stadium when proceedings commence against opponents ASEC Mimosas on 12th February 2021 and DC Motema Pembe/Diables Noirs on 8th & 19th March respectively.

It should be noted that same venue hosted last season’s CAF Confederation Cup final between RSB Berkane and Orlando Pirates.
