Georgina Rodriguez, the partner of Al-Nassr captain Cristiano Ronaldo, has shared her positive experiences of living in Saudi Arabia despite the country’s poor human rights record.
Georgina praised the country for treating women well and being a safe and family-friendly place.
She also shared a story of a kind stranger who offered her friend a bottle of water when she was unable to purchase one.
When asked how she was adapting to life in Riyadh, where she and her family first lived in a skyscraper hotel before they moved to their first proper Middle Eastern home, Georgina told El Hormiguero: “It is a marvellous country.
“I have to admit I went there very conditioned by what people say about it and what you hear, but it is a very safe country, a real family place and they really look after women and their children.
“People are very generous and really thoughtful.
“A girlfriend of mine came to visit and was in a hotel and they had not left her any water. As it was very expensive, she went to a call centre, but her card was not working and she did not have any local currency.
“A man ended up inviting her to a bottle of water. The people are very kind and very thoughtful.”
Georgina and Ronaldo moved to Saudi Arabia after he left Manchester United to join Al-Nassr in the Saudi Professional League.
The couple has two children together and tragically lost a baby boy during birth in 2022.
