Newcastle United have confirmed that England youth international of Nigerian descent, Sam Alabi, has signed a new contract with the club, NaijNaira can report. The teenage midfielder is among eleven promising players who secured scholarships at the club’s Little Benton Academy for the 2025/26 season.
According to Newcastle United’s official website, Alabi joins Jack Callaghan, Luke Gilligan, Oliver Holland, Mason Miley, Michael Mills, Noah Morgan, Ethan Ndiweni, Thomas Old, Jack Patterson, and Sammy Pinnington as part of the new academy intake.
Alabi gained attention in February 2025 when he became the youngest player to train with the Newcastle senior team under manager Eddie Howe, at just 15.
He played fifteen matches in the U18 Premier League last season and featured in two FA Youth Cup fixtures.
In April, Alabi represented England U16s at the Montaigu Tournament, appearing against Japan and Mexico and making the bench against Portugal.
Though he has made eleven friendly appearances for England’s U16s, he remains eligible to play for Nigeria without a switch in association.
“Training with the first team at my age is a huge motivation,” Alabi said earlier this year.
The club views Alabi as one of the brightest young talents to watch in the coming years.
