The Galaxy A71 is a newly introduced A series device from Samsung and here is its specs and price in Nigeria.
It was launched alongside the A51 in December last year.
The A70 series from Samsung seems to be in between the midrange and the flagship segment.
You can tell that by looking at the specifications of the Galaxy A71.
This device is succeeding the Galaxy A70s from last year and in this post, i will be telling you more about the device and also be comparing it with the A70s to see if there is an upgrade.

The design of the Galaxy A71 looks same with that of the A51. It comes with a vertical rectangular camera module which houses four sensors.
Comparing it with the design of the A70s, it comes with a vertical module which houses only a triple rear cameras.
The right side of the A71 houses the volume rockers and the power button, the left side houses a single slot for dual Nano SIMS and one SD card.
At the top, there is a secondary microphone, the bottom houses the 3.5mm audio jack, USB C-port, primary microphone and a speaker grills.
There is a Samsung branding at the bottom rear and it has a curved edges which helps in easy grip compared to the A70s which looks flat.
The back of the smartphone is made from plastic and it also has a plastic a frame.
It weighs 179grams with a dimension of 163.6 x 76 x 7.7 mm.
The smartphone uses a Dual Nano SIMS slot with a one SD card slot.
It is nice that Samsung has made the A71 lighter in the hand compared to the A70s.
The Galaxy A70s weighs 187grams with a dimension of 164.3 x 76.7 x 7.9 mm. Nice upgrade Samsung.
The Galaxy A71 is available in four colours which are Prism Crush Black, Silver, Blue and Pink. I kind of miss the Prism Crush Red on the Galaxy A70s.
Coming to the display, the smartphone has a very tiny punch hole cut-out upfront for the selfie camera and it looks like the one on the Galaxy Note 10 series.
Placing this device with the Galaxy Note 10 facing upwards, you might be confused on which one is which.
If you recall, the Galaxy A70s has a waterdrop notch cut-out which is an infinity V display in Samsung slangs.
A71 uses a Super AMOLED display which measures 6.7inches diagonally with a Full HD+ resolution of 1080 by 2400 pixels.
The chin and bezels on the A71 is much smaller than the one on the Galaxy A70s. That’s why it has a screen to body of 87.2% compared to the A70s which has a screen to body ratio of 86.0%.
For amazing colour reproduction, the Super AMOLED panel with the 393 ppi density will do the job.
It has an aspect ratio of 20:9 which means that this device is pretty tall.
Not surprised at all because it has a massive 6.7inches display, this is a good display for watching videos and playing games.
For protection, the display is wrapped in a Corning Gorilla Glass 3.
Hardware and Software
In terms of hardware and software, the smartphone is powered by a powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 730 chipset for the global version and Snapdragon 730G chipset for the Philippians version.
This chipset is more powerful than the one on the A70s.
The Galaxy A70s is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 chipset so there is an upgrade here, nice.
Galaxy A71 Qualcomm Snapdragon 730 chipset uses an Octa core processor clocked at 2.2GHz for the first two cores and 1.8GHz for the last six cores.
It runs on Android 10 with Samsung’s custom OS One UI 2.0 on top. For amazing graphics reproduction and smooth gaming performance, it uses an Adreno 618 GPU, compared to the Adreno 612 GPU on the Galaxy A70s.
Unlike the Galaxy A51, the A71 comes in just two storage configurations which are 6-giga byte of RAM and 128-giga byte of internal storage or an 8-giga byte of RAM and 128-giga byte of internal storage.
There is a micro SD card slot where you can extend the storage even further.
For photography lovers, A71 comes with a quad rear cameras compared to the triple rear cameras on the Galaxy A70s.
The quad rear cameras on the A71 includes a 64-mega pixels main camera with f/1.8 aperture, 12-mega pixels ultra wide with f/2.2 aperture, 5-mega pixels macro camera with f/2.4 aperture and a 5-mega pixels depth sensor with f/2.2 aperture.
On the front, there is a 32-mega pixels camera for selfies or video calls with f/2.2 aperture.
If you can recall, the A70s comes with a triple rear cameras which includes a 64-mega pixels main camera with f/1.8 aperture, 8-mega pixels ultra wide with f/2.2 aperture and a 5-mega pixels depth sensor with f/2.2 aperture.
The older version has the same 32-mega pixels selfie camera.
So there is an upgrade in the rear camera department, the A71 now comes with a macro camera which is not present on the A70s and it comes with a bigger 12-mega pixels ultra wide camera which is bigger than A70s 8-mega pixels ultra wide camera.
The rear camera on the A71 can shoot videos in 4K at 30fps, 1080p videos at 30 to 120fps and a separate 1080p videos at 960fps and yea, it supports electronic image stabilization.
The front camera can only shoot videos in 1080p at 30fps. There is a single led flash at the rear but there isn’t one at the front because it makes use of screen flash.
Battery and Connectivity
Coming to the battery capacity which makes the light running on this device possible, it is powered by a Non-removable Li-Po 4500 mAh battery which supports 25W fast charging.
This is also the same battery capacity present on the A70s.
For security, there is an under display fingerprint sensor which unlocks under a second.
Connectivity options includes Wi-Fi 802.11, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, NFC and FM Radio. It uses a USB Type-C cable.
This is a good smartphone from Samsung this year.
Looking at the specifications of the device, you can see that it is in between midrange and flagship.
In short, it might be referred as a flagship killer.
The presence of that Super AMOLED display with a ppi density of 393 plus the Full HD+ resolution will make the display to produce vibrant colours with deeper blacks.
If you are a gamer, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 730 chipset and an Adreno 618 GPU will handle gaming like a champ.
Unlike the Galaxy A51 smartphone that was launched alongside the A71, the A71 comes with a better 4,500mAh battery which supports 25W fast charging compared to the A51 which has 4,000mAh battery with 15W fast charging.
The Galaxy A71 is a good smartphone and it is also a good upgrade from the Galaxy A70s.
It comes with a lighter weight than the A70s, more powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 730 chipset and a better 12-mega pixels ultra wide camera and 5-mega pixels macro camera.
So if you have N150,000 Naira and you are wondering which Samsung device to get, Galaxy A71 will be a good option.
