Seattle Sounders left it late but finished strong with a 2-1 victory over Club Tijuana on Wednesday, sealing their place in the Leagues Cup quarterfinals – www.naijnaira.com reports.

The win keeps Seattle perfect in group play, making them the only undefeated MLS team among the 36 competing this round, according to The Seattle Times.

Danny Musovski buried the winner in the 87th minute after Cristian Roldan swung in a sharp corner, sending the home crowd into chaos.

Earlier, Osaze De Rosario pulled Seattle level with a towering header in the 56th minute, fed by a clever chip from Ryan Kent.

ā€œThat’s the mentality of this group — they never fold,ā€ said coach Brian Schmetzer.

Despite going down 1-0 in the first half, the Sounders didn’t panic.

Club Tijuana had taken the lead through Kevin CastaƱeda’s rocket after a quick throw-in caught Seattle off guard.

Sounders missed a penalty in stoppage time before halftime, with Albert RusnĆ”k’s shot rattling the post.

The match saw late drama as Tijuana’s Ramiro Franco got sent off for pulling Obed Vargas’ shirt.

Schmetzer praised the squad’s grit, saying, ā€œWe picked up the energy and fought through the noise.ā€
