The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has urged the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Bola Tinubu’s administration to prioritize Nigeria’s deepening security and economic challenges over early election campaigns.
According to Daily Post, the ACF expressed disappointment that the APC seemed more focused on preparing for the 2027 elections than solving the immediate problems affecting Nigerians, especially in the North where insecurity is escalating.
“The ruling party seems more obsessed with early campaigns, defections, and political moves for re-election than with tackling the real problems facing the country,” the ACF said in a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Professor Tukur Muhammad-Baba.
ACF Raises Alarm Over Rising Insecurity
The ACF warned that insecurity is worsening in northern states and stressed that government policies have so far failed to deliver real solutions. The group condemned what it described as careless public spending, especially when many citizens are battling poverty.
A key concern raised by the ACF is the alleged allocation of over N260 million for each streetlight in the 2025 federal budget. The group described the budget insertions as extremely reckless.
“That there has to date been no official denial of such crassly reckless and surreal insertions attests to the insensitivity of public officials and political representatives to the plight of ordinary Nigerians,” the group stated.
Security Responses Called Into Question
The forum criticized security authorities, accusing them of ignoring the growing threats faced by several state governors and local communities. It described the attitude of security officials as disconnected from the reality on the ground.
“Delusional hubris and head-in-the-sand claims continue to characterise pronouncements by officials charged with responsibilities for security,” the ACF stated.
The group warned that failure to address these issues could push citizens towards frustration and hopelessness.
Call for Unity and Action
Despite the harsh conditions, the ACF commended Nigerians for their ability to remain united and for celebrating religious festivals like Eid-el-Kabir with strength and faith. The group encouraged the Muslim community and all Nigerians to continue embracing values of sacrifice, unity, and commitment to national progress.
