According to reports from Punch Sports Extra, Leicester City has set their sights on RB Salzburg’s Lucas Gourna-Douath as the ideal replacement for Wilfred Ndidi.

The Nigerian midfielder’s contract with the club is set to expire in the summer, and it seems unlikely that he will renew his contract.

As a result, the club’s manager, Enzo Maresca, and his coaching team are actively searching for a suitable replacement. Gourna-Douath, who is valued at over €20m by Salzburg, has caught the attention of Leicester City.

The 20-year-old midfielder would be interested in a move to England, especially if Leicester secures promotion to the Premier League. The French website, jeunesfooteux.com, reported that Gourna-Douath sees the opportunity to progress his career as a significant factor in considering a move.

Meanwhile, Ndidi has been attracting interest from several European clubs, including Juventus, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Newcastle, Wolves, and Tottenham Hotspur.

Since joining Leicester City from Belgian club Genk in 2017, Ndidi has made 269 appearances across all competitions. This season, he has scored four goals and provided six assists in 32 matches.

Leicester City currently sits in the second position in the Championship table with 88 points from 42 games, just one point behind leaders Ipswich Town, who have played one more game.

Ndidi’s anticipated 270th appearance for the Foxes will be against West Brom at the King Power Stadium in an English Championship fixture on Saturday.
