Super Eagles Move Up in FIFA Rankings Despite Setbacks

The Super Eagles of Nigeria have risen one spot in the latest FIFA rankings, moving from 44th to 43rd.

According to a report by Daily Trust on April 3, 2025, Nigeria’s position improved despite a lackluster performance in March’s 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

In March, the Super Eagles secured a 2-0 victory over Rwanda in Kigali but were held to a 1-1 draw at home by Zimbabwe in Uyo.

This draw against Zimbabwe was a setback for Nigeria’s World Cup qualification hopes.

Despite this, the team saw a slight drop in their total points, moving from 1482 to 1481.

Nigeria has now fallen out of the top five African teams in the rankings.

Morocco, Senegal, Egypt, Algeria, and Côte d’Ivoire now occupy the top five spots in Africa.

On the other hand, Zimbabwe made significant progress after their draw with Nigeria, climbing five places globally to 116th and gaining nine ranking points.

Globally, Argentina remains at the top of the rankings, with Spain, France, England, and Brazil rounding out the top five.

The Netherlands, Portugal, Belgium, Italy, and Germany fill out positions six through ten.

As FIFA mentioned, 245 international matches have been played worldwide since the last ranking release in December 2024.
