Tajudeen Abbas, the representative of Zaria constituency, has emerged as the new Speaker of the House of Representatives in Nigeria’s 10th Assembly.

Abbas was nominated by outgoing Majority Leader Alhassan Ado-Doguwa and seconded by Nnolim Nnaji.
He is the preferred candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), which has also put forward a nominee for the position of Deputy Speaker.
However, Abbas’ nomination faced opposition from some lawmakers, including Idris Wase.
