Spokesperson for Labour Party’s presidential Campaign Council, Kenneth Okonkwo has reacted to Dr. Doyin Okupe’s resignation from the position of the Director General of Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign Organization.

During an interview on Arise News on Tuesday, Kenneth Okonkwo said that what happened to Doyin Okupe is a political ambush, stating that the convention demands that six months to election, any political sensitive case is suspended until after the election, but that is not being followed.

He added that the Labour Party has nothing to worry about, saying that the best the opposition parties have gotten so far is the fact that Doyin Okupe made an honest mistake.

According to Kenneth Okonkwo, the People’s Democratic Party has former President Olusegun Obasanjo who happened to be the only principal that the presidential candidate of the party, Atiku Abubakar ever served as a political appointee. He noted that Obasanjo had said that Atiku Abubakar is the most corrupt man on record.

He also noted that the Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike said that Iyorchia Ayu is the most corrupt National Chairman on record, saying that he embezzled billions of naira which Atiku Abubakar is aware of.

According to him, despite all the corrupt practices in the PDP, neither Atiku Abubakar, nor Iyorchia Ayu has resigned. Okonkwo therefore said that when it comes to comparison, the worst of the Labour Party is still better than the best of the People’s Democratic Party and the All Progressives Congress combined.

Speaking further, Okonkwo said that by the combined effect of the actions of Doyin Okupe, Peter Obi and the Labour Party, the incident has rather promoted and skyrocketed them to the enviable position of the number one.

He added that despite the fact that the Court of law used the adjectival phrase, “honest mistake” to describe Doyin Okupe’s offense, yet, Okupe, without pressure from anybody honourably resigned. He asked to know if such thing has ever been seen from the All Progressives Congress or the People’s Democratic Party. He added that Peter Obi remains the only option.
