TikTok has removed over 3.6 million videos in Nigeria between January and March 2025 for breaking its community rules, NaijNaira can report. The removals marked a 50% rise compared to the previous quarter, pointing to a tighter enforcement effort by the platform.
According to TikTok’s Q1 2025 Community Guidelines Enforcement Report, published recently, most of the content was flagged and removed proactively, before users reported it.
The company said 98.4% of the videos were taken down proactively, and 92.1% were removed within 24 hours of being uploaded.
“Improving user safety is a priority, and we’re constantly refining our detection systems,” the report stated.
TikTok said it also banned 42,196 LIVE rooms and stopped 48,156 live streams in Nigeria for breaking rules.
Another 129 West African accounts linked to covert operations were permanently removed in March.
Globally, the platform deleted over 211 million videos, with automation handling more than 184 million of those.
Despite these numbers, the company said harmful content still accounts for a small share of what’s shared on the app.
To boost trust, TikTok appointed Nigeria’s Dr. Olawale Ogunlana (Doctor Wales) as a digital well-being ambassador.
TikTok says it’s committed to transparency, safety, and maintaining a trustworthy space for users in Nigeria and beyond.
