A top All Progressives Congress (APC) figure has pushed back against opposition claims that President Bola Tinubu’s government is “weaponising poverty” across Nigeria.
According to Idealmedia, Babatunde Ogala, former National Legal Adviser of the APC, addressed the issue during a dinner held in Abuja, where Nigerians at home and abroad gathered to assess the government’s progress two years into Tinubu’s presidency.
Ogala labelled the accusation as disconnected from the reality of Nigeria’s current trajectory. He insisted that the Tinubu administration has delivered progress in key sectors.
“The achievements in education, health, economy, and infrastructure are visible to all Nigerians,” Ogala said.
The dinner, themed Two Years of Impact: Honoring Mr President and the Voices of Renewed Hope, offered a stage for supporters and officials to reflect on the administration’s track record.
Ogala further credited diaspora Nigerians with continuing to promote the APC, despite the relatively low number of political roles granted to them. He applauded their commitment to national progress and global image-building efforts.
“The Renewed Hope Diaspora keeps promoting the government, the party, and the country internationally,” he added.
The event’s chief host, Ade Omole—former Director of the APC Diaspora Campaign Council—emphasised that the gathering aimed to speak honestly about the government’s efforts, not merely offer flattery.
Omole remarked that the administration has not only counted time in office but also made measurable impact. “Progress has not only emerged but endured under this leadership,” he said.
Vice President Kashim Shettima was represented at the event by Alhaji Aliyu Modibbo, former FCT Minister. He commended Tinubu’s focus on inclusivity and safeguarding national interests amid growing scrutiny.
The occasion attracted prominent APC leaders, officials, and diaspora-based stakeholders.
