On Wednesday, major stakeholders of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu state boycotted the party’s presidential rally campaign being led by the APC presidential candidate Bola Ahmed Tinubu at Michael Okpara Square.
Some of the absent leaders included Foreign Affairs minister Geoffrey Onyeama, former Senate President Ken Nnamani, former Governor Sullivan Chime, and Speaker Eugene Odoh.
The leaders had earlier received Tinubu when he arrived at Akanu Ibiam International Airport but then diverted to Chime’s residence where they addressed journalists.
They said their absence was to send a clear message that something urgently needed to be done about the crisis within the party in Enugu State, blaming Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma for allegedly hijacking the APC structure.
Despite this boycott, Tinubu still addressed a sizable audience at the rally proposing changes such as making Igboland an industrial hub and assuring construction of 2nd Niger Bridge would be completed by his administration.
Governors Dave Umahi and Hope Uzodinma of Ebonyi and Imo States were present at the event.
