According to sources, President-elect Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has chosen Godswill Akpabio and Tajudeen Abass as his preferred candidates for the positions of Senate President and Speaker of the House of Representatives, respectively.
The decision was reportedly made during a meeting with selected members of the National Working Committee at the Defence House in Abuja, which was attended by outgoing Senate President Ahmad Lawan, his deputy Ovie Omo-Agege, and outgoing Speaker of the House Femi Gbajabiamila.
The APC Secretary, Deputy National Chairman, and other stakeholders were also present.
A member of the NWC confirmed the decision, stating that Tinubu had made up his mind on the issue long ago.
Akpabio, a former governor of Akwa Ibom State, is expected to be deputized by Senator Barau Jibrin, while Abass, who is supported by Governor Nasir Ahmad el-Rufai, may have a yet-to-be-named deputy.
The youth leader of APC in Northwest, Abdulhamid Moh’d, has appealed to Akpabio and others in the race to support Jibrin as Senate President, citing his experience and leadership skills.
