President-elect Bola Tinubu has reportedly started making key appointments ahead of his May 29 takeover date.
Sources close to Tinubu’s team say that Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, is being considered for the position of Chief of Staff.
Unofficial reports suggest that Gbajabiamila has already started operating in this capacity and was recently seen with Tinubu in Paris, where they were discussing plans for the incoming administration.
Tinubu is also said to be considering former Lagos State Commissioner for Finance, Wale Edun, and Kebbi State Governor, Atiku Bagudu, for major appointments within his administration.
Sources suggest that Tinubu is particularly focused on building national security and economic teams, and has appointed Edun and Bagudu to his economic team, though their specific portfolios are yet to be determined.
Sources claim that Edun is being considered for the position of Finance Minister or Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, and will serve as the coordinator of the economy. Meanwhile, Bagudu’s role is yet to be confirmed, but he is expected to operate at a high level within the administration.
Tinubu is set to become the 16th President of Nigeria after winning the February 25, 2023 presidential election.
His appointments are being closely watched, as they will provide an early indication of the direction his administration will take.
