The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, has officially sworn in Thompson Oludare Sunday as the new Managing Director of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) alongside Dr. Kabir Sabo Katata, who now serves as Executive Director, Operations – www.naijnaira.com reports.
During the ceremony at the Ministry of Finance in Abuja, Edun emphasized the NDIC’s pivotal role in safeguarding the financial system, stating, “NDIC is critical to our nation’s stability and economic progress.”
According to Obinna Ezugwu via NaijNaira, the minister encouraged the leadership team to harness their collective expertise in strengthening deposit insurance and delivering on their mandate.
Oludare Sunday, speaking on behalf of the new executives, expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the opportunity and pledged to fulfill the confidence placed in them.
He promised full commitment from his leadership, saying, “We will work to meet the expectations of Mr. President and serve the Nigerian public with diligence.”
Upon arrival at the NDIC head office, Sunday and his team were welcomed warmly by staff members, setting a tone of unity and collaboration.
Addressing the staff, Sunday reiterated his resolve to build a performance-driven Corporation, guided strictly by its legal responsibilities and public service objectives.
A veteran in Nigeria’s financial regulatory space, Thompson Sunday brings over three decades of deep-rooted experience, having joined the Central Bank of Nigeria in 1989.
He is known for his leadership in banking supervision, risk management, corporate governance, and institutional capacity building, with a career that culminated as Director in 2021.
Katata, now Executive Director of Operations, is a computational finance and quantitative energy specialist with 28 years of experience across critical sectors.
His extensive background includes leadership in telecommunications, energy, and banking, with a reputation for developing high-level financial optimization and risk systems.
He began his journey at NDIC in 2012 as Assistant Director in Research and Policy, eventually becoming Director in 2022 before this new appointment.
Together, Sunday and Katata are expected to steer NDIC through a performance-oriented era, backed by seasoned insight and technical capability.
