Denmark’s foreign minister has summoned the top US diplomat in Copenhagen after reports accused Trump-linked figures of covert influence efforts in Greenland – www.naijnaira.com reports.
According to broadcaster DR, at least three people with ties to the former US president allegedly worked in secret to sway opinion in the Arctic territory.
The report claimed one individual compiled lists of Greenlanders supportive of Washington while monitoring opponents and seeking ways to discredit Denmark in American media.
Two others were said to have built contacts with local politicians and business leaders to push pro-US narratives.
Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen condemned the alleged actions, warning, “Any attempt to interfere in the internal affairs of the Kingdom will of course be unacceptable.”
He confirmed the US chargé d’affaires had been summoned for a meeting at the ministry.
Greenland’s mineral wealth and strategic position have long attracted Washington’s attention, with Trump openly musing about purchasing the island in the past.
The Danish intelligence agency PET noted that foreign powers continue to target Greenland with influence campaigns designed to exploit divisions.
Cooperation between Denmark and Greenland, Rasmussen stressed, remains grounded in “mutual trust.”
