Uchechi Kanu, the wife of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, recently visited her husband who is currently in the custody of the Directorate of State Services (DSS).
This visit comes after Mrs. Kanu faced difficulties in accessing her husband since his detention in 2021. Expressing her relief and gratitude, Mrs. Kanu thanked Senator Ifeanyi Ubah for his role in facilitating the visit. She acknowledged Senator Ubah as a true Igbo leader and expressed her appreciation for his prompt intervention.
Prior to Senator Ubah’s assistance, Mrs. Kanu had faced repeated denials of access to her husband by the authorities. Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of IPOB, has been in DSS custody since 2021 following his rendition from Kenya.
During a radio address in the United Kingdom, Mrs. Kanu thanked Senator Ubah and other Igbo politicians and leaders who have shown concern for her husband’s unlawful detention.
She expressed gratitude to those working silently to secure a round table discussion for his release. Confirming the visit, Senator Ubah explained that Mrs. Kanu approached him, expressing her difficulties in visiting her husband.
He immediately intervened and accompanied her, along with their lawyer, to meet Nnamdi Kanu in the DSS facility on April 16.
