Aston Villa manager Unai Emery has extended his contract with the club until at least 2027. The Spaniard’s existing deal still had two years remaining, but he has agreed to an additional 12 months, according to the PA news agency. Villa is also interested in discussing a new longer-term contract with Emery in the summer.
Emery has made a significant impact at Villa Park since taking over from Steven Gerrard in November 2022. He has successfully guided the team from a relegation battle to the brink of Champions League qualification this season.
Additionally, Villa is in the semi-final of the Europa Conference League and is the favorite to win the tournament, which would be their first European trophy since 1982. Emery’s impressive work has attracted attention from other top European clubs, including Bayern Munich.
However, Villa is determined to retain his services and build on the progress made under his leadership. Last season, Emery guided Villa to a seventh-placed finish, and this season they are in pole position to secure a top-four finish and qualify for the Champions League for the first time.
Villa’s ability to manage their tough Thursday-Sunday schedule has been commendable, and they currently hold a six-point lead over fifth-placed Tottenham, who have two games in hand.
Their upcoming match against Chelsea presents an opportunity to extend their lead over Spurs.
