United Nigeria Airlines, a domestic carrier, has recently been granted approval to operate international flights.

This approval came from the Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development and allows the airline to fly to several countries including the United States, United Kingdom, Netherlands, Italy, Ireland, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

In a letter dated September 8, 2023, the Director of Air Transport Management, Mr. H.T. Ejiburu, on behalf of the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr. Festus Keyamo, informed United Nigeria Airlines about the approval.

The letter stated that this approval aligns with the existing Bilateral Air Services Agreement (BASA) between Nigeria and each of the mentioned countries.

The letter also mentioned that United Nigeria Airlines should coordinate with the Civil Aviation Authorities of the respective countries to complete the necessary documentation before commencing scheduled flight operations.

Additionally, the airline is required to comply with the Nigerian Civil Aviation Regulation and liaise with the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) if needed.

United Nigeria Airlines, chaired by Prof Obiora Okonkwo OFR, started its flight operations in 2021 and currently operates scheduled flights within major Nigerian cities.

The airline had previously obtained approval for regional flights and is now preparing to begin regional operations in the coming weeks after receiving additional aircraft in mid-October.
