U.S. Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell was admitted to a local hospital and is being treated for a concussion after he fell at a dinner event in Washington on Wednesday evening, according to a statement by David Popp, Mr McConnell’s spokesperson.
It is believed that the fall happened during a charity dinner at the old Trump hotel, the Waldorf Astoria.
The Senator was taken to George Washington University Hospital shortly after 9:00 p.m.
His stay in the hospital will last for a few days of observation and treatment as per his spokesperson’s statement.
Prior to this incident, Majority Leader had been working until late at night at the Capitol, trying to pass legislation that would decrease mandatory minimum sentences for some serious offences in the District of Columbia criminal code – unfortunately, however, it remains uncertain how long he will be absent from the Congress during his hospitalization.
