The United States Men’s National Team (USMNT) appointed Mauricio Pochettino as their new head coach.
Pochettino will lead the USMNT into the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be held on home soil.
In his statement, Pochettino emphasized that the decision was about more than football. “The energy, the passion, and the hunger to achieve something truly historic here – those are the things that inspired me,” he said.
U.S. Soccer sporting director Matt Crocker, who led the hiring process, praised Pochettino as a “serial winner” with a proven ability to develop players and create competitive teams.
Crocker expressed confidence that Pochettino is the right leader to maximize the potential of the U.S. squad and achieve success on the world stage.
Pochettino takes over from interim head coach Mikey Varas and will manage his first games in upcoming friendlies against Panama and Mexico next month.
