Former Togo and Arsenal striker Emmanuel Adebayor believes that Victor Osimhen, the Super Eagles forward, should be awarded the 2023 African Player of the Year.

Osimhen played a crucial role in Napoli’s victory in the Italian league, scoring 26 goals and providing five assists.

Adebayor, who won the award in 2008, stated that Osimhen’s outstanding performance last season makes him the deserving candidate for the award.

He also mentioned that other potential contenders, such as Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah, had challenging seasons.

Adebayor expressed his confidence in Osimhen’s abilities and stated that if given the opportunity, he would give him more than the maximum number of votes for the award.

Osimhen also made history by becoming the first African player to win the prestigious Capocannoniere award for being the top scorer in Serie A.

He is set to begin pre-season training on July 19th while awaiting updates on his future.
