Victor Osimhen, a Nigerian forward, is a strong contender for the Best African Player award in the international category at the 2023 Ghana Football Awards.
Osimhen had an outstanding 2022-2023 season, helping his club, Napoli, win the Scudetto for the first time in 33 years and reach the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League.
He finished the season as Serie A’s top scorer, winning the Golden Boot and the best striker in the League award.
His impressive performance has attracted interest from elite clubs worldwide, despite Napoli placing a €120 million price tag on him.
Osimhen faces competition from Algerian Manchester City winger Riyad Mahrez and Egyptian Liverpool winger Mohamed Salah for the award.
The Ghana Football Awards organizers announced the three shortlisted players on June 8, and the winner will be announced on June 25, 2023, at the Accra International Conference Centre.
