Manchester City’s difficult run of form continued on Saturday as they were defeated 2-1 by Aston Villa in the Premier League.

Villa took the lead in the 16th minute with Jhon Duran finishing off a swift counter-attack, courtesy of a pass from Morgan Rogers.

Duran thought he had added a second early in the second half, but his effort was ruled out for offside.

Rogers then struck the post with a powerful shot as Villa continued to threaten.

In the 65th minute, Villa doubled their lead.

Rogers, after a smart run, beat City goalkeeper Stefan Ortega with a precise strike, putting the reigning champions in a tough spot.

City fought back and managed to pull one back late in the game through Phil Foden.

However, Villa held firm in the final minutes and cleared their lines to secure a vital 2-1 win.

The result sees Villa move above Manchester City into fifth place in the Premier League, while City remains nine points behind leaders Liverpool, who now have two games in hand.
