'We should have scored a third' - Gundogan after penalty miss

Ilkay Gundogan, the midfielder for Manchester City, has revealed that it was Erling Haaland who gave him the ball to take a late penalty against Leeds on Saturday.

Despite missing the penalty, City won 2-1 at the Etihad and are now four points clear of Arsenal at the top of the Premier League.

After Gundogan scored two goals to make it 2-0, City were awarded a spot-kick. Haaland chose to give up the chance to score and instead helped Gundogan complete his hat-trick.

However, Gundogan hit the woodwork with his penalty, and a minute later, Leeds scored a goal to make the final moments uncomfortable for City.

Gundogan said, “We should have scored a third,” and expressed his gratitude to Haaland for giving him the opportunity to take the penalty.

“The moment Erling grabbed the ball, I was sure he was going to take it, but he looked out for me. I checked with him a few times to make sure he was sure.

“He was certain to hand the ball to me. I was confident to score.

“I can’t even remember if the keeper saved it or if it was the post? We should have scored a third,” Gundogan said.
