Cristiano Ronaldo has definitively shut down rumours of a potential transfer to Newcastle United, saying that his work in Europe is now done.
Ronaldo spoke to reporters after officially signing a contract with Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia, where he will be paid an estimated £173 million per season.
Reports surfaced claiming his new contract included a clause allowing him to move to the Saudi-owned Magpies next season should they qualify for the Champions League.
After spells at Sporting Lisbon, Manchester United, Real Madrid, Juventus and Manchester United again, Ronaldo declared that he doesn’t need to return to Europe anymore as the successes he achieved established him as a “unique” player.
He emphasised that any decisions taken about his career path have been well supported by his family – especially his kids – and their welcome from the Saudi Arabian people has been phenomenal.
The former star of Lille, Roma, Marseille and Lyon Rudi Garcia is now managing Ronaldo at Al-Nassr and said it is an honour for both himself and Al-Nassr to be able to call on such an iconic player’s services.
