Senator Dino Melaye, Director of Public Affairs in the PDP Presidential Campaign Management Committee, suggested yesterday that President Muhammadu Buhari may have opted not to support APC presidential candidate Bola Tinubu because he does not want to be responsible for handing over the baton of leadership to Tinubu, who has “amputated himself.”
Melaye was referencing recent comments by Tinubu and Kaduna State governor Nasir el-Rufai that blamed internal sabotage for their lack of success in the election.
He pointed out that from its inception, the APC has been a marriage of convenience that is bound to end up in divorce, so it is no surprise that its members are now aligning themselves with reality and accepting defeat.
He noted that aside from Buhari being accountable for his party’s failings, he cannot be obligated to back a man such as Tinubu who carries a weight of past controversies and present showings of ineptitude.
Now with Atiku Abubakar becoming the frontrunner and favored choice of different parties, Melaye believes he will bring unity back to Nigeria while lifting it up into its rightful place among other countries.
The PDP is confident they will be successful in their aspirations and will carry on responsibly once they do.
