Former Niger Delta militant, Asari Dokubo, has expressed his opinion on why it would be difficult for a Christian to become Nigeria’s president.
Speaking on Facebook live, Dokubo said that the politicians who have promoted religion more in Nigeria are Christians, hence making it difficult for them to produce the country’s president in the nearest future.
Dokubo, who is known for his involvement in the Niger Delta militancy, stated that it would be difficult for a Christian to become president of Nigeria today, given the current political climate.
According to him, Bola Tinubu, who is the president-elect, cannot change anything.
Dokubo went on to explain that a Muslim-Muslim ticket has become the norm in Nigerian politics and that there is nothing that can be done about it.
He also cautioned against starting a war that cannot be finished.
“The people that have promoted religion in everything in Nigeria are Christians,” he said. “It will be difficult for them to produce the president of Nigeria. You don’t start a war that you cannot finish.”
Dokubo’s statement has generated mixed reactions from Nigerians, with some agreeing with his views, while others disagree.
Some have criticized his statement as being divisive and likely to fuel religious tension in the country.
However, others have argued that his comments reflect the current reality in Nigerian politics, where religion and ethnicity play a significant role in determining political leadership.
They believe that Nigeria’s political system needs to be restructured to ensure that merit and competence, rather than religion and ethnicity, are the criteria for electing leaders.
